Pinned It, Made It! Monday

Country Girl at Home

 Simple Shower and Tub Cleaner
Picture from Joyful Homemaking
I have an exciting pin today, this one is from Joyful Homemaking. I bought the dish wand with a brush instead of the scouring one or one that looks like the picture. It worked pretty good, but I still have quite awhile before I get everything scrubbed off. I try to work on it every time I take a shower.

I cut the table runner/ towel off in the previous picture, look at the cute ruffle. Cyn also sent some cute recipe cards that didn't make it into the picture. Thanks Cyn.  Amy from Bumble Bee Lane hosted this fun swap.

Pinned It, Made It! Monday

I love enchiladas but my family is only uh about them. I love to use the corn tortillas and I'm sure if I fried the shells a little before using they wouldn't be as soggy, but I don't. My family would eat them more if I used flour tortillas but I try to avoid gluten most of the time. When I stumbled upon this recipe it sounded good but I'm not big on pasta and Mexican flavors together and I was out of my brown rice pasta from Trader Joe's. I had rice so that's what we used.
I pulled cooked chicken breasts out of the freezer.
I cooked the onions in olive oil and added garlic at the end.
Add the cooked chicken to the onions and garlic, I added green chilies, cumin, chili powder, salt and the enchilada sauces. I simmered for 10-12 minutes, (I removed a serving for my daughter who doesn't eat dairy) then I added the cheese until melted and stirred in the sour cream heating till melted. Do not boil. We served over rice, with our favorite toppings and had guacamole on the side.
My version
2 chicken breast cooked and shredded
1 onion chopped
2  garlic cloves
2 Tablespoons olive oil
1 can 4oz green chilies
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tsp chili powder
2 tsp cumin-- I love cumin
2 cans enchilada sauce  I used one red and one green ( I have a wonderful enchilada recipe I would use if I didn't have any canned)
I'm chintzy with my cheese so I use 1 cup of cheese and 1 cup sour cream.

I didn't have my camera when I made this for dinner, so just imagine it served over rice!

The original recipe is here.

Pinned It, Made It! Monday

These two items are from a swap I recently participated in.
I didn't really see a project that inspired me it was just a whole bunch of images jammed together to come up with this, I think the pattern is a snowman or Santa body. I wanted to paint or write in each color USA. But every time I thought I was through painting, I'd check it the next day and it would have red on white or white on blue, I can't even remember how many times I repainted, so when I had the the paint just right, I stopped. I didn't like any mouth that I tried on the doll so I left it plain. Of course I saw one the other day that would have worked great.

This crow was from looking at another picture, it didn't turn out exactly how I wanted it, but I have another one in the works and I just came up with the idea of using a snap for eyes since none of my buttons were working for me.

crow
This is the original crow I pinned. It linked to Etsy but wasn't pulling the original seller up for some reason. It looks much better than the one above.

Cow Day

My girls enjoyed Cow Appreciation Day at Chik-Fil-A.  I think Amy needs a new outfit. I made the cowgirl costume for Jaime back when she was 4 or 5. I don't think I have any pictures of her in it but here is one from 4 years ago with Amy wearing it for Cow day.

Photo: This picture is from 4 years ago don't my cows look young?

My girls are getting so big, I have a picture on my phone that I took will the three youngest when we had breakfast at Chik-Fil-A and (I didn't have my regular camera). I have to text the pictures to one of my daughters and then she emails it back to me, I forgot to do that.  Thanks Chik-Fil-A for the no cook Friday!

Pinned It, Made It! Monday

This was my inspiration for the sunflower but I forgot to go back and look at it after I cut it out and painted it. I think mine would have been a little plumper if I hadn't filled the middle with so many x's.

Amy made this for the 4th of July---

I pinned this Firecracker Tutorial, we used the small pringles can and just used modge podge.

Happy 4th of July

flag

We had a fun time at a local 4th of July festival--inflatable slides, pony rides, hula-hooping, a puppet show and a whole bunch of fun things we didn't even get around to do. Later we sat outside watching all the neighbors lighting up the skies and lit a few of our own fireworks. Amy popped at least 3 boxes of poppers and our feet have popped the ones she missed. I hope you had a wonderful 4th.

1. What's the best advice anyone has ever gave you?
Tough question--but for me this was one of the most life changing. A co-worker asked me when I was pregnant with my 2nd, if I was going to breastfeed and she shared with me all the wonderful benefits for mom and baby. I am forever grateful to her, breastfeeding made such an impact on my life. I didn't breastfeed my first born, (I had her when I was a teen) and didn't even think about breastfeeding till my co-worker brought it up..
2. Do you have houseplants?
I have one spider plant that has hanged on for at least 8 years, with our infrequent watering. I use to have a lot more but they slowly died out.
3.Do mosquitoes bother you or leave you alone?
Average
4. What's your favorite charity? If you have one.
We don't usually give out money to charities, but I volunteer with La Leche League and that would be my first choice. I also have helped a couple times at a local charity ran thrift store and our church food pantry. Our Girl Scout Troop has volunteered at Harvesters. In the future I would like to help out at a local animal shelter.
5. Do you like mint? What variety is your favorite?
I had to look at everybody else's answers for this question. I was just thinking mint that you put in tea. Who knew there were so many mints?  I like the mint you put in your tea, peppermint patties are high up on my mint list. I don't really care for candy canes or peppermint candy. I love the lifesaver wintergreen candy.

Pinned It, Made It! Monday

Recycle your old books
This pin is what inspired me. The link isn't working anymore.

I used a patriotic craft/quilt book--I spray painted it red first, then painted it blue, added the stars and stripes. I used a watered down brown paint to get an aged look but be careful wiping, if you rub too hard it will remove the paint base.
